Award show season is here, ladies and gentlemen, and there is more than enough reason to celebrate! Roll out the red carpet, slip into your finest black-tie attire and cue the champagne toasts. It is sure to be a dazzling evening of surprised award winners, heart-warming acceptance speeches and infinite did-you-see-her-dress?! moments. I invite you to enjoy the awards with the best of them. Okay, so maybe you’ll substitute the red carpet for the burgundy table runner with gravy stains that your mother insists you use for dinner parties. Who cares that your finest black-tie attire happens to be your favorite dress or shirt you bought on sale last year? Besides, who needs…well let’s not justify skipping the champagne toasts. Award show season is a treat for everyone, so why not throw a party to rival the best?
Award show parties have incredible potential and should not be taken lightly. Send a Paperless Post Academy Awards Invitation between two and three weeks before the event. Use the invitations to set the tone for an elegant evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and award predictions. Begin the evening while the red carpet coverage is being aired. Encourage everyone to dress in cocktail attire to fully experience the award show. As guests arrive, greet them warmly and show them where they may find drinks, food and important rooms in the house, such as the living room, restroom and coat closet. Take plenty of pictures and “interview” guests about how excited they are to attend and whom they think will take home Best Actor and Actress.
If your guests don’t know one another, consider introducing a light game. Bring out the award show magic with a running game of “And the award goes to…”. Before the party, print out all of the award categories and each of the nominees. A lot of the award shows offer a printable ballot sheet on their website for easy preparation. During the red carpet coverage, ask your guests to mark whom they think will win the award in each category. As the evening goes on, keep track of who guessed the most correct award winners!
A fun twist on the game is to introduce “should-have-been winners” to each category. Some productions take the Awards by storm, collecting an award for every nomination. After the third or fourth award, there can’t be any one else to thank — besides, that independent release had a chance until the blockbuster film came along. I digress. Nevertheless, try adding your mark on the evening and encourage your guests to be Academy members for a night.
There are a ton of ways to make your award show party a great success, starting with the invitation. Check out the Paperless Post Academy Awards section to send the perfect award show party invitation. Don’t forget to come back and tell us all about your party!
